O God, thy Sea is so great and my boat so small

July 17, 2022, Alex Bay NY, well the good news is we are back in the water at the Thousand Island Club on Wellesley Island in Alexandria Bay. They launched us on Friday afternoon and after 10 days in hotels , we were finally able to spend Friday night on Her Idea. She never looked so good and  we never though we would miss her so much.

Back at the shop working on the battery issues FINALLY!

First night back in the water

Sunset first night back on the boat!

This will be a short blog as we sure don’t have much to share  with you all, but thought I would keep the weekly updates going. This says it all here is our weekly track, pretty pathetic.

From Land, to the shop, to The Thousand Island Club (23 knots props work just fine! )

We spent the first two night after they hauled the boat last Tuesday (July 5th)  in Alex Bay and then we moved 30 miles south to Watertown NY which was a much larger town with everything in walking distance. We actually averaged  almost 20K steps a day as we had very little to do but go for walks. We did get two movies in Maverick and Where the Crawdads Sing, both good moves, actually Maverick was great! Think that was our first movie in two and a half years, its ben a long dry spell, and it was really nice  to be back in theaters.

The one distraction we did have was last week was on Tuesday we drove to Flushing New York, (right next to The Met’s Stadium) to pick up the props so we could get them to the service gentlemen quickly. The freight company was going to take 3 days as they don’t come to Alex Bay often, twice a week is what we were told. Therefore  we rented a car and drove the 6 hours down to NYC, picked up the goods then  drove  back to Binghamton (3 hours) Tuesday night. Wednesday we got up and have the props in Alex Bay before noontime then drove back to Watertown to return the rental car. We were suppose to launch Thursday but one the parts they had ordered was incorrect, luckily they found out Wednesday afternoon and the part was close by so it was only a one day delay.

Our original issue was the batteries (as you may recall) and they were unable to diagnose that gremlin with the boat out of the water as they had to run the engines to duplicate the problems. Friday afternoon once she was in the water and at the shop  they tackled that issue and it appears it the relays that are bad. Won’t bore you with the details. That part was ordered late Friday afternoon and won’t be here until Tuesday so hopefully Wednesday is DEPART ALEX BAY DAY! Fingers crossed!

We were able to cruise around the Bay in the dinghy and it really is a beautiful area. Didn’t have my camera with me on the ride but took some pictures of some places on my phone for you to enjoy.

Lastly  it was interesting to read all your reactions to the intruders we had aboard in Phoenix.  The majority of the comments certainly are suggesting we arm ourselves with weapons, several were pretty surprise that we didn’t already have them on board and a few of you even willing to meet me and “bring us some heat”. The biggest issue is Canada, which is not gun friendly so we are weaponless. Several suggestions regarding flares guns however, the best advise and the one we actually followed though on was from Tom McNamara who suggested “ Cappy (which is what he has always calls me), where is your Louisville Slugger!” Great advise, Tom.

Meredith and I at Dick's after choosing our weapon of choice!

We were able to find a TV at the Thousand Island Country Club to watch the Open the past two days, appropriately named!

So short and sweet, hopefully we will be publishing from Canada next post and will be headed up the Trent Severn Waterway

Cheers and Fair Winds

    2. Glad you got all the issues resolved. Good Kentucky protection product (Louisville Slugger). I thought only handguns were banned in Canada - a shotgun should work! Thanks again for the update. It’s fun to follow.

  2. Rental cars, NYC and hotel rooms! Ughhh! You do what you have to. Thanks for the update and I look forward to the next post with NO battery issues, intuders or bent props. Just living the dream. Take care and godspeed.

  3. So happy to hear from you as I guess you may have sent the post about your issue with intruders to a incorrect email as I know nothing os that situation but glad you are both alright. Taking a water trip is close to going on an RV that David & I did for years. Something always goes wrong or supper right. Looking back will be a great memory and lots of laughs. Keep it up and enjoy each moment. So happy for you two. Love, Pat
